Workshop Introduction
Smart Cards
The Workshop is designed to equip delegates with a comprehensive knowledge of smart card technology and applications, to gain maximum competitive advantage for their organisations.

Smart cards, whilst now a mature technology, continue to be deployed for a wide variety of public sector and commercial applications, and have become a pivotal form of secure token for functions ranging from identity management to e-payments.  But fundamental changes are on the horizon: NFC threatens to make mobile handsets the new and ubiquitous form factor; multi-application and dual-interface cards are finally finding their marketplace; there is a strong migration to contactless technology, not only for public transport but for many other sectors.  Security issues continue to make headlines, and internet-based payments are becoming mainstream.  Card chip technology is also evolving rapidly.

Smart card-based systems are complex in nature, and companies (whether suppliers or card scheme operators) need a clear understanding of their development, operation and control if they are to use this technology effectively.  Branding issues, too, are dominating the marketing aspects of card deployment, particularly where different service providers are sharing plastic.

The Workshop is carefully designed to educate attendees in all of the above areas, and to provide them with the opportunity not only to learn from the experienced specialists that lead each session, but also to share their practical issues and questions with speakers and with each other.

The workshop will provide

  • Professional instruction from specialists who have been closely involved with smart card andor biometric applications
  • A complete course manual
  • Advice from independent experts
  • The opportunity to discuss practical issues and their resolution.

Who should attend
The workshop is targeted at companies concerned with choosing, implementing, or supplying smart card-based solutions.  Key personnel who should attend include:

  • Project managers
  • Business managers
  • Marketing professionals
  • Potential smart card scheme operators
  • Systems implementers
  • Development staff new to smart cards
